SOPHIE KIRKWOOD

I started out in the fashion industry 13 years ago, as an assistant to Trinny and Susannah – a lesson in how fact is often weirder than fiction.

I then went on to head up the fashion department of ITV’s This Morning. After trying, and mostly failing, to write in my spare time, in 2016 I enrolled on UEA’s Creative Writing MA as a recipient of the Malcolm Bradbury scholarship.

Since graduating, I have been working on a satirical novel about the cult of celebrity and reality TV.

My short story, Something Else, was written over a period of five years, and went through many drafts before being submitted to Hammond House. Writing can be a lonely, and at times frustrating endeavour, so to have been awarded first place in this competition is an accolade I don’t take lightly. Thank you!
