Third Place in the Short Story category of our 2022 International Literary Prize: Sarah Walker

3rd Place in the Short Story category of our 2022 Hammond House Publishing International Literary Prize (awarded by the University Centre Grimsby) is 'Rasp' by Sarah Walker of Australia.

Sarah Walker is an Australian writer and artist. She writes fiction and creative memoir about anxiety, control and intimacy. Her first book, The First Time I Thought I Was Dying, a collection of non-fiction essays about the unruly body in late capitalism, won the 2021 Quentin Bryce Award.

Her work has appeared in The Monthly, Meanjin, Kill Your Darlings, Overland and The Guardian, and has been recognised in the Calibre Essay Prize, the Commonwealth Short Story Prize, the Walkley Awards, the Nillumbik Prize and the Disquiet Literary Contest.

Her art practice uses comedy, narrative and speculative fiction to create surprising encounters with tensions around death, disaster and catastrophe. She can be found at https://sarahwalker.work/ and on Instagram @sarahtakesphotos.

Winners and shortlisted entries in the short story, poetry and song lyrics categories will be published in the 2023 Hammond House Publishing anthologies to be launched at our annual Literary Festival on 22nd February 2023 at the University Centre Grimsby. Congratulations!
