2nd Place in the Poetry category of our 2022 Hammond House Publishing International Literary Prize (awarded by the University Centre Grimsby) is 'All the clothes you'll ever need' by Val Ormrod of the United Kingdom.


Val's other poem 'The Burning' was also shortlisted in the competition.


Val Ormrod is a writer and poet from the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. She has won the Ware Poets Open Competition, Magic Oxygen Literary Prize, Carers UK Creative Writing Competition and been recognized in the Bridport Prize, Plough Prize, Wells Festival of Literature and Welsh Poetry Competition.


She has an MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University and has been published in various anthologies and journals including Stroud Short Stories, Graffiti, Hedgehog Poetry, Ink Tears and Eye Flash Poetry. This year she was honoured to be featured in Reading the Forest, a compilation of prominent Forest writers over 5 centuries, which was issued to all schools in the area.


Her memoir In My Father’s Memory, about caring for her father with dementia, has been adapted into a stage play called My Favourite Dog, performed in the UK and Thailand.


Winners and shortlisted entries in the short story, poetry and song lyrics categories will be published in the 2023 Hammond House Publishing anthologies to be launched at our annual Literary Festival on 22nd February 2023 at the University Centre Grimsby.
