Congratulations to Ruth Flanagan from Dorset, UK for achieving Joint 2nd place in our Poetry category with her poem 'Spellbound' in our Hammond House Publishing 2021 International Literary Prize.
Sponsored by the University Centre Grimsby, prizes will be awarded at our annual literary festival to be held on 9th February 2022 - the theme for our 2022 International Literary Prize will also be announced.
Ruth Flanagan has been both a primary and secondary school teacher and has spent the last 18 years teaching literacy to older students with specific learning difficulties.
Ruth started writing poetry 4 years ago and it was Hammond House Publishing that encouraged her to continue, by shortlisting her in the 2018 poetry category for her poem, ‘The Last Song of the Mistle Thrush’.
Ruth was then shortlisted in 2019 for ‘Farewell to a Nightingale’ and again in 2020 for ‘A Call to Arms’, when she also was awarded Judge’s Choice for ‘On the Wings of an Albatross’. This year, Ruth was thrilled to be placed 2nd for her poem, ‘Spellbound’.
Ruth takes pleasure in writing poems about nature; its beauty and fragility. She likes to write in a lyrical way that can be easily understood and enjoyed by everyone. Ruth's work has been well received and has also been published by Momaya Press.
