"Thank you so much for running this competition - the short length has given me the incentive to have a go at something I haven't tried before and it gives me and many others the opportunity to record something about these times. It is an opportunity for individual expression within a wider body of expression of our human experience." – Victoria Lindsay, UK
When we first began toying with the idea of releasing a free lockdown-themed competition, we could never have anticipated the amazing feedback we would receive from authors all across the world. We're thrilled that the Staying Home competition has offered some inspiration and respite to writers, however small, in these difficult times. The staggering range of entries represents a fascinating cross-section of a particularly volatile snapshot of time.
Our competition judges, Alex Thompson and Jennie Liebenberg, are already busy reading through your wonderful entries. A full list of all shortlisted entries will be released on Sunday 12th July 2020 and the three winners will be revealed on Sunday the 19th July on BillboardTV.
All shortlisted entries will be published on our website, and the three winners will be published in Survival, the next instalment of our annual short story anthology due to be released in early 2021.
If you missed the chance to enter Staying Home – or you're brimming with more ideas – our 2020 competition is accepting entries until September 30th 2020. With the theme of Survival, and the chance to win cash prizes and worldwide publication in three categories, it's set to be our most popular competition. You can find out more information and enter here.
A huge thanks to all authors who submitted their 500 word stories to the Staying Home Competition!
Stay safe and well.
